The Lions Club of Sevenoaks is part of Lions International, the largest service organisation in the world. Lions Clubs International has 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs in 193 countries. In the UK and the Republic of Ireland there are nearly 1000 clubs with a total of 19,000 members. Each club is responsible for providing help to people in need in its own locality.
LCIF combats needless blindness through cataract surgery; building and equipping
eye hospitals and clinics; and raising awareness of eye disease. It conducts 600,000
glaucoma screening tests and 20,000 corneal transplants each year. It is also responsible
for establishing and supporting most of the world's eye banks.

LCIF enables Lions to tackle global problems such as blindness and hearing loss.
It also responds to major catastrophes such as earthquakes and floods. Lions Hope
for Haiti is mobilizing nearly £6 million.
Six hundred Haitian families are moving
into new, temporary homes thanks to an initiative between LCIF, the Lions of MD111
Germany and HELP, an international non-governmental organization. This the first
of many reconstruction projects to receive support from LCIF thanks to generous financial
support of Lions worldwide following the devastating earthquake.
LCIF nurtures the potential of youth by building schools and supporting a life-skills
program. It also promotes health by building and equipping medical clinics, serves
the elderly by constructing senior citizen centres, empowers the disabled by supporting
vocational programs and helps victims of disasters through rebuilding projects and
short-term relief.
