Each year we organise a variety concert presented by professional players for senior citizens. The objective is to recreate the best items from old time music halls. Entry is free and we offer tea and cake in the interval. We have nearly three hundred guests from a wide catchment area around the town. It is one of our most popular activities - all our guests look forward to the afternoon. This year the players introduced some new acts which were very well received.

We have been told that this year would definitely be the last appearance of the greatly loved Fairy Snowdrop. However, she is one of the most popular characters in the show so do not give up hope that she will make a sparkling return.

We arranged with another Lions Club to share the transport of a person with learning difficulties to his home in Devon. He was able to enjoy Christmas with his family and return to Sevenoaks after the New Year.

Many senior citizens are ill or infirm. Social Services often call us to help when gardens get out of hand. We clear the garden and enable the owner to enjoy the facility again.

MacIntyre Care provides accommodation for people with learning difficulties. The Lions Club has purchased for the organisation twenty talking albums. These can be used to enable residents who cannot read to select their menu for the day or to do their own shopping. They can also provide more complex information such as how to make a will and how to report hate attacks. Our pictures show the talking book which tells residents how to make a will and a resident holding the book that was prepared for  her.                                                                                                       

DECEMBER 2009- CHRISTMAS PARCELS 

For Christmas 2009 we delivered 100 parcels to families in need. The families were selected by a wide range of the Town's care services and charitable organisations. They contained packs of all the goodies we associate with Christmas; mince pies, Christmas puddings, a Christmas cake, chocolates, biscuits, crisps and much more. The goods were delivered in Tesco long life bags. We would like to  thank Tesco for donating the bags for this project. 

The Friends of Sevenoaks Hospital asked us to paint the cafe at Sevenoaks   Hospital. We organised a working party which worked over a weekend. The result is a bright, clean cafe that all the staff, patients and visitors can use with pleasure. Our picture shows the cafe with two of the volunteer helpers who  provide excellent service to the cafe's many customers.

We had a call from KCC Social Services to help an elderly lady whose garden had become rampant. We contacted the Edenbridge Job Club whose members cleared both the front and back garden in around two hours allowing light back into the house where vegetation had almost completely covered the front window as well as clearing the path and overhanging hedge that were hampering access for her carers.

During the summer we arrange 6 outings for senior citizens in cooperation with the Brighter Futures organisation. We take people to pub lunches, to local gardens like Emmetts and Great Comp and country houses like Hever and Penshurst.  To apply for these free outings call Brighter Futures on 01732 454785.

We provide a day out at Chessington Theme Park for a party of children and parents or carers from low income families. These children rarely have an opportunity to visit a theme part so we take them to Chessington in a coach and provide the entrance fee and expenses.
