COMMUNITY PROJECTS - FAMILIES

 CHRISTMAS PARCELS

Each year the Lions Club prepares  almost 100  Christmas parcels for people on limited incomes. These parcels contain seasonal foods and treats for both young and old. Our photograph shows Lions about to deliver the parcels (foreground) to bring a little Christmas cheer to families and pensioners.

SPRING HOUSE

We support a local charity which provides help for families which need support. In particular, we have sponsored a summer play scheme for the school-age children of these families. The scheme takes place over a period of three weeks during the school holidays and is registered with both OFSTED and the County Council. We also provide some support for the Family Welfare Association in Edenbridge which offers some of the same services as Spring House.

HOSPICE IN THE WEALD

The Hospice in the Weald is more than just a hospice. Not only does it provide medical help for people who are desperately ill and in great pain but it also cares for their families. It provides advice to medical practitioners and trains nurses. It runs a day clinic which is used regularly by over 200 people. (To learn more see  the Hospice web site - click here). The Hospice wanted to start a clinic to treat lymphodema  a condition which involving a vast swelling of limbs due to retention of water. It received a grant from the NHS which covers the revenue costs but it needed equipment to initiate its new clinic. The Lions Club donated the special kit and the computer programmes to enable this programme to be initiated and to give relief to women in Kent and Sussex.

THE PICKERING CENTRE

We provided the Pickering Centre in Tunbridge Wells provides support to families who have a member suffering from cancer. It provides a drop-in centre where sufferers and their families can receive advice and where they can meet other people with similar problems. The Lions Club has provided funds for an hydraulic couch for treating patients.
