LIONS CLUB OF
SEVENOAKS

We raise around £20,000 each year which we invest in projects that benefit the community.

  ANNUAL MUSIC HALL

Peter John a virtuoso in music hall and variety acts gave masterly performances. He is a very popular performer. However, we missed his fairy act - he gave the final performance last year.

Each year we present a concert for the senior citizens of Sevenoaks which recalls some of the  songs and acts of their youth. This year our clients proclaimed the event “the best ever”, “the entertainers were very  good”. Barry Daniels was our Master of Ceremonies and brought his experience from West End musicals and pantomimes to Sevenoaks.

This was Victoria Yallop’s first appearance at our show and a very popular artiste she proved to be. She is a classically trained violinist who is able to entertain with old style songs. Our audience was really entertained and just wanted more.

Linda Watson has made many appearances on TV and has toured with the Magic of the Music Halls and has performed in opera and operetta. She gave the audience a rousing series of songs - they  thought she had a wonderful voice.

And, of course, it could not have happened without our Music Director Lawrence Payne. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Music and has directed shows from rock and roll to Salad Days. He supported all the players from his keyboard.

Alan Simmons and, of course, the all-important Denny have worked together in music hall with many famous artists. Their joint comedy really delighted the audience.

LIONS SUPPORT THE HOSPICE IN THE WEALD

The Lions Club has purchased a Motomed toning machine for the Hospice. It helps both in-patients and day patients strengthen their muscles which, for example, allows them to walk, feed themselves and dress themselves for longer. It gives them greater dignity and greater satisfaction.

The District Council has ceased to provide minibus services for the elderly and this function has become the responsibility of local charities. The Lions Club has provided financial support for the volunteer service which operates two minibus services which take the elderly to the shops and to their many activities.
