COME TO OUR BOOT FAIR ON SEPTEMBER 5TH

The members of the Lions Club of Sevenoaks come from all walks of life and are united in a common drive to serve their community. They support individuals, agencies and charities to achieve well-defined aims which will benefit local people.

Below are some of our most recent projects.

JUNE TO SEPTEMBER 2008 - OUTINGS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

During the summer we arrange 6 outings for senior citizens in cooperation with the Brighter Futures organisation. We take people to pub lunches, to local gardens like Emmetts and Great Comp and country houses like Hever and Penshurst.  To apply for these free outings call Brighter Futures on 01732 454785.

MAY 2009 - ANNUAL OUTING TO CHESSINGTON THEME PARK

We provide a day out at Chessington Theme Park for a party of children and parents or carers from low income families. These children rarely have an opportunity to visit a theme part so we take them to Chessington in a coach and provide the entrance fee and expenses.

MARCH 2009 - CONCERT FOR OVER 200 SENIOR CITIZENS

Each year we organise a variety concert presented by professional players for senior citizens. The objective is to recreate the best items from old time music halls. Entry is free and we offer tea and cake in the interval. We have over two hundred guests from a wide catchment area around the town. It is one of our most popular activities - all our guests look forward to the afternoon. This year the players introduced some new acts which were very well received.

DECEMBER 2008 - CHRISTMAS PARCELS DELIVERED

For Christmas 2008 we delivered 100 parcels to families in need. The families were selected by a wide range of the Town's care services and organisations. They contained packs of all the goodies we associate with Christmas; mince pies, Christmas puddings, a Christmas cake, chocolates, biscuits, crisps and much more. The goods were delivered in Tesco green bags. We would like to  thank Tesco for donating the bags for this project.

JANUARY 2009 – PURCHASED RADIO CASSETTE PLAYER FOR SHOREHAM SCHOOL

Shoreham school needed a new radio/CD player for its hall for use in2017 image assemblies and music lessons. It had a very restricted budget and the parents' association had just spent all its funds on furnishing and stocking a new library. The Lions Club was able to help this small but effective school renew its equipment. It can now support successfully the assemblies and music lessons it holds in its hall.

SEPTEMBER 2008 - BARBECUE FOR LEONARD CHESHIRE DISABILITY

Leonard Cheshire Disability residential home at Chipstead in Sevenoaks needed a new, large barbecue for its regular gatherings of residents, family and friends. The Lions provided the funds to purchase high quality equipment that could serve a large number of people. Our photo shows Peter, the cook, with his new cooker.

OCTOBER 2008 - FURNISHED FLAT FOR SEVENOAKS NEURO-REHABILITATION UNIT

The Neuro-rehabilitation unit at Sevenoaks Hospital is a pioneering operation with a national reputation. It takes patients from all over Kent many of whom are young people who have been involved in accidents which have caused head injuries. It wanted to furnish a flat in which patients could live to practise autonomous living before returning to independent life. Lions provide the finance which enabled the Unit to purchase the furniture and equipment needed for the new flat.

AUGUST 2008 - PURCHASED MINIBUS FOR VSU YOUTH IN ACTION

VSU contributes to the education of young people by helping them help the community. They run after school clubs, help senior citizens, and support the disabled. Since 1999 VSU has delivered over 700,000 hours of youth voluntary work. The organisation needs to transport young people to their projects and, for this purpose it needed another minibus. Lions purchased for it the a low-mileage, second hand vehicle from TOCH in excellent condition.
